This particular car is powered by a Hotchkiss design Air Cooled 90 Degree V-Twin of 1021cc displacement. The Hotchkiss is an overhead valve motor with a single downdraft Solex carb. Unlike the contemporary Morgan, this is a front wheel drive vehicle and has 3 forward speeds and electric start. This car was imported from the UK about 6 years ago and is largely complete. It comes with a Buff Logbook with multiple entries and stamps from the 50s. This car will need a full restoration, though the gauges have already been professionally restored. |

It is reputed to have a 10hp engine with two-speed and reverse planetary transmission, chain drive to the single rear wheel, brakes on both the driveshaft and the rear wheel and righthand tiller steering. The radiator is the brass-trimmed slab behind the side-by-side seats and there is a starting crank on the side. The rear wheel is suspended on a pair of quarter-elliptical leaf springs which also locate the axle. It is a 1997 AACA Senior National First Prize winner and the quality of the restoration and subsequent care it has received in its survival in show car condition today. The finish is black with gold coachlines on the body and the black painted wood spoke wheels. The two bucket-style seats are upholstered in black leather and it has its optional black folding top. Kelseys ads note that it has circulating oil lubrication, not the then-common full loss oiling. It really is a gorgeous, intriguing little thing that will always attract enthusiastic, positive attention. |

2009 sale by Bonhams in UK. VICKERS-SUPERMARINE TWO-SEAT MONOPLANE FIGHTER TRAINER Chassis no. Original Serial No: SM520. This Supermarine-designed aircraft was built originally by the British Vickers-Armstrong company at its Castle Bromwich factory as one of 103 Spitfire Mark IXs constructed to Government contract B981687/39. This batch comprised individual airframe serial numbers SM517 to 548, SM563 to 597 and SM610 to 645. Amongst these aircraft, SM520 now offered here constructors number CBAF 10164 - was signed-off as complete, new, on November 23, 1944, and was delivered to the Royal Air Forces No 33 Maintenance Unit at Lyneham in Wiltshire where it was to be prepared to operational standard for service delivery.
It was equipped as new with a Rolls-Royce Merlin 70 V12 engine, and was subsequently sold on June 21, 1948, to the South African Air Force. It was one of a batch-purchase of 136 Spitfires for delivery to the Union between 1947 and 1949. Eighty of these aircraft were to F. Mark IXE specification with Merlin 63 power units, and 86 of them HF Mark IXEs with the Merlin 70. Fifty of the aircraft were flown out to South Africa and the balance shipped surface to the ports of either Cape Town or Durban.
Old SM520 now offered here as G-ILDA was one of the latter group of aircraft. It was shipped on the MS Halesius which sailed from the UK on May 27, 1948. SM520 was accompanied on board by seven sister Spitfires, serials BS408 (SAAF 5564), MA477, PL215, TE307, TE329 and TE333. The Halesius subsequently docked in Durban, where the aircraft were unloaded to join South African Air Force service.
At the present state of historical research, SM520s service record with the SAAF remains relatively obscure. We understand that inconclusive surviving evidence indicates that SM520 may have become SAAF Spitfire Mk IX serial 5563. That aircraft was equipped with Rolls-Royce Merlin 70 engine serial no 184901. A very much abbreviated service record has been located for 5563, and the aircraft is understood to have sustained Category 1 damage following a propeller strike on September 6, 1951, followed by Cat 2 damage due to collision with a North American Harvard (serial 7284) on October 23 that same year. |

This car was the car of the week a few days ago and noted for its rarity on Yahoo Auto. This Blazer Chalet comes equipped with a fridge, stove, sink, and a furnace. They seat 6 when driving and sleep 2 or 3 depending on how much you like each other. The table folds down into a bed, and there is a cot hanging from the ceiling to sleep on. Most of them are long gone, so these are collectible and quite rare. This truck is not mint, but it is as solid as you will find. It has spent its life out in dry California and it shows. The body is dusty but not rusty. In fact, the only rust is some minor pimples on the hood and a little on the passenger door. The rockers, floors, quarters etc. are perfect. The paint is sun faded and the front seats have tears in them. The top pops open and the canvas is in very good shape. This truck is an excellent candidate to make into a show quality piece. It runs well, but it will need a once over on the brakes etc. 64,000 miles. |

We did the body and paint work and redid the interior. Most of the chrome was redone with quite an investment at the Amphicar restoration place. Most of the replacement parts are NOS. We only serviced the drivetrain as it was in running condion when we purchased it. We redid the brakes for safety. The tires are brand new coker bias plys. The car still shows very well and would impress at any car show. It is very water ready and we take it out every other month to a local lake. |
